Everything WAAM does impacts the various different ways in which humans and our mammals cousins interact. We do this though practice, education, research and stakeholder or community engagement. Our current project are explained below.

  • Improving African elephant welfare

A multi-stakeholder project with the objectives of uplifting the welfare of elephants in human care and setting a standard for ethical elephant visitor attractions. This initiative consulted with international welfare experts, local welfare and conservation NGOs & elephant care facilities. Participation came from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, UK and USA. After 4 years, 7 workshops and 3 comprehensive edits the first edition was published July 2021. In December 2022 the first facility achieved compliance, www.elecrew.org a Zimbabwean based elephant rehabilitation and education charity. This project has been hailed as a ‘first for Africa’ and is making a genuine difference on the ground for elephants that are cared for by humans. Please donate to help us help more elephants.

  • Re-wilding and Regenerative farming

For over 35 years the founders of We Are All Mammals have been working on projects that combine ethical animal husbandry and food production whilst reserving space for wildlife to flourish. Today we call this re-wilding and regenerative farming, and across 3 sites on the Isle of Mull, Scotland; La Drome, France; & Exmoor National Park, England the techniques and inspiring results are showcased. As the dual existential challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss increase, nature based solutions that include humans, other mammals and environment are essential. • Mammal interaction attractions

Tourist and entertainment attractions that involve mammals (and other non-human animals) have become increasingly controversial in the last few decades. There are undoubtably many establishment and practices that fall well below the bar for welfare and ethical standards. There are, however, many which can benefit the individual mammals involved, educate and inspire the humans that have the privilege to experience these animals up close and there may be broader conservation impacts. We Are All Mammals take an evidential approach to assist improvement of the welfare of these animals through education and research. We also aim to assist mammal care facilities to work toward better welfare practices and help them find meaningful conservation and education impact. We can provide expert consultancy advise and project management to make those improvements and find genuine impact. Please contact us below.
